Dizziness and Vertigo Make You Anxious? (ICU - "I See You" podcast, Ep 18)
As you know, dealing with vestibular disorders can take a toll on a person’s mental well-being. Feelings of stress, sadness, and uncertainty about the future are common, and these emotional responses can manifest as anxiety. Anxiety and vestibular symptoms can create a vicious cycle where one exacerbates the other, and it’s ever so hard to break that cycle. Addressing anxiety in people with vestibular dysfunction often involves a multifaceted approach that may include vestibular rehabilitation therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), relaxation techniques, and medications if necessary. By addressing both the physical symptoms and the associated anxiety, people can better manage their ...

Vestibular Healthcare From Nurse Practitioners & Physician Assistants (ICU -"I See You" Podcast, 14)
Просмотров 1504 месяца назад
Primary care practitioners are often the first healthcare professionals we seek when we feel dizzy, disoriented, or not quite right. Their role is to take a medical history and assess whether the person can be treated immediately with medication or therapy, or whether they need to be referred to a specialist for further testing. One challenge, however, is that by definition, primary care practi...

      I understand how you feel I have bilateral total vestibular loss and it can be so depressing. I have had for 7 years now and I struggle every day. I lost the ability to drive now and was forced into an early retirement. The fact I am now disabled and just trying to accept a lot of things I can’t do any longer. I was put on depression and anxiety meds to help deal with this and maybe you could talk to your Dr to help with this?

    I bashed my head on a kitchen wall door around 18 months ago, and it will not heal. I have a hole in my head, and I cover it was sterile plasters, but when I peel them off, there is blood and a clear liquid on them. I have since developed balance issues, and have fallen three or four times, so now I walk with a stick. Should I be concerned? Is it a Brain Injury? I have had my Mother Pass Away, in the last 12 months, and I have had to move out into an Apartment, I have literally put my life on hold, and have not got around to getting the hole in my head seen to. Can you help me?

    Excellent series, motivating and encouraging. Thank you. Pardon for popping up with two questions straight away: (1) Does anyone know what are the best exercises to getting better at looking downwards? (2) Any hints on what exercises help you get a grip on the "falling" feeling, which comes up when it's starting to get darker in the evening or when you enter an unfamiliar room (especially going out for dinner in the evening)?

    • @matthewtrout1440
      @matthewtrout1440 24 дня назад

      1. Probably anything that stresses actually looking downwards. So the VOR exercises that involve looking up and down, bending over to pick things up off the floor, passing a tennis ball between and around the legs, etc. 2. Sounds like an over reliance on vision for balance. When it gets darker and visual acuity is reduced, more stress is placed on the vestibular system. Vestibular rehabilitation should help, as would walks in the evening as the sun starts to go down, progressing to walks at night (if safe). Obviously seek a medical opinion to find out why the vestibular system is not functioning as it should.

    This is great awareness for the dizzy community. Thanks for what you do. I became retired in 2022 due to my bilateral SCDS, I took me 14 months to convince my government I needed help with social security here in the uk. In that time I lost everything, became homeless, had my driving license revoked and my independence was gone. Invisible illnesses are really hard to prove here in the uk. Blessings to you all ✌️➕❤️

    I am beyond thrilled to hear how your life has greatly improved by dancing...what upsets me a bit is WHY has no physical therapist I've gone to ever told me about healing through dancing....I used to dance ALL THE TIME and this morning when I clicked on a video to watch GOD TOOK OVER and instead of what I thought I was going to see, wound up with incredible music and I began to dance and a lightbulb went off in my head wondering if the 9 years of dizziness and balance problems would be HEALED BY DANCING...so here I am, listening to this GIFT you have gotten and I am now, going to start dancing to heal too. BLESSINGS TO YOU DEAR LYNN....my healing will help others just like yours has...THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!
